Application Expansion: Emerging Fields Unlock Growth Potential
Humanoid robots and low-altitude economy have become new growth drivers for neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) demand. The Tesla Optimus humanoid robot consumes 3.5 kilograms of magnetic materials per unit. According to CITIC Securities' forecast, the global demand for NdFeB in emerging fields will rise to 33,000 tons by 2035, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 24.9% between 2030 and 2035. Northern Rare Earth has specifically launched a 3,000-ton high-performance magnetic material project; its products can meet the precision control requirements of robotic joint servo motors, and the current order fulfillment rate has reached over 90%.
Energy efficiency upgrades in the industrial sector continue to release existing demand. In the wind power industry, after adopting high-performance NdFeB, permanent magnet direct-drive wind turbines have seen a 10% increase in power generation efficiency and a 3 million yuan reduction in lifecycle operation and maintenance costs. In industrial servo motors, the NdFeB solution delivers a 9-percentage-point higher efficiency and a 44% lower temperature rise compared to ferrite solutions, making it a core enabler of intelligent manufacturing. Overseas demand for high-end NdFeB products remains robust: EU imports have increased by 18% year-on-year, and Japanese enterprises even purchase domestic magnetic materials at a 16.7% premium.
Industry experts point out that the NdFeB industry is in a positive cycle of "technological breakthroughs - capacity upgrading - demand expansion". With the popularization of heavy rare earth reduction technologies and the penetration of emerging applications, China will further consolidate its voice in the global high-end magnetic material market and is expected to transform from a material supplier to an integrated solution provider.
